In the ROI, five vitreoretinal surgeons perform routine and to a large extend complex vitreoretinal surgeries as well. The ROI is the tertiary referral hospital for complex ophthalmic conditions. The contribution of the ROI is focused on the experimental validation of the various technical developments carried out in the other workstreams. The ROI offers their eye/experimental facilities and surgical expertise in the person of K. Faridpooya. K. Faridpooya is one of the leading senior vitreoretinal surgeons, with special expertise in complex vitreoretinal surgery and trauma. The ROI is developing an ex vivo porcine model in order to study drug delivery. This model will be used in in the preclinical studies in this program. In addition, the ROI has expertise in the development of clinical trials protocols and all other documents such as the investigational medical device dossiers (IMDD) that are required for ethical approval. If necessary, ROI. will contribute to the preparation of a clinical trial.
